Chris Helme (The Seahorses) on Friday 23rd June 2023

Rising to fame in the 1990s as frontman of indie band The Seahorses singer-songwriter Chris Helme is now producing acclaimed folk-infused tracks as a solo artist, including with a new album readying for release in Spring 2024.

His enviable back catalogue includes Britpop classics such as ‘Love is the Law’ and ‘Blinded by the Sun’ from his time with John Squires’ post-Stone Roses band, The Seahorses. But beyond these well-loved indie hits Helme has matured into a songwriter of regard for noir-tinged folk gems blistering with emotion.

Previous album, 2012’s The Rookery - produced by Sam Forrest (Nine Black Alps, Sewage Farm) - drew critical praise on release with Uncut describing it as, “echoing the fragility of Gram Parsons, while flirting with the rustic side of Neil Young” and his latest work is set for a similar reception.

His long-awaited forthcoming album builds on this tone, with a number of ‘70s folk and song writing touch points across his works - Tim Buckley, Van Morrison, and Jackson Browne - it is the melody and imagination as much as the intricate guitar interplay and orchestration, which leads to lush, blossoming climaxes to hold audiences spellbound. Lyrically Helme has a knack for mixing light and
dark and for poetic description which remains relatable to resonate deeply, his matured vocal uncovering new feeling in whichever track he turns his attention to.
From rousing sing-a-longs of Britpop classics to underrated indie-folk gems Chris Helme is among the finest singer-songwriters on the circuit today and the release of long-awaited new material should only confirm his reputation and give audiences fresh favourites to enjoy alongside his indie classics.

“Echoing the fragility of Gram Parsons, while flirting with the rustic side of Neil Young” Uncut

“Dreamy but driven indie folk. Enhanced by lavishly layered production and a deftly deployed string quartet.” Q Magazine

“A memorable collection of songs that should establish Helme in his own right and give him the recognition he deserves.” Mojo

Naomi Campbell is a singer songwriter from Co.Tyrone, Northern Ireland, based in Liverpool, UK. Performing in range of genres including folk-rock, Country and Blues, Naomi currently performs with her band, Americana outfit Motel Sundown and enjoys singing Blues/Rock classics with the Liverpool Arts Bar house band Tin Can Voodoo.

The debut album from Motel Sundown, ‘If You Were Listening’ was released on the 15th July and is available on all streaming/download platforms and on 12” vinyl from motelsundown.co.uk.

John Rush is a Glasgow based singer/songwriter (originally from Paisley). With his, “folk tinged pop songs” John has played some of Glasgow’s greatest venues such as the Barrowland Ballroom (four times), King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, O2 Academy, O2 ABC, Royal Concert Hall and Saint Lukes, The Winged Ox as well as many more venues around Scotland and festivals in Scotland and England.

Through the years he has racked up some highly acclaimed support slots with Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene, Chris Helme (The Seahorses), Steve Pilgrim (Paul Weller’s drummer) and Johnny Lloyd (Tribes). John took a selection of songs across the pond to New York City in late September 2018 where he showcased his new music in a quick mini NYC tour consisting of four gigs in five nights including a secret rooftop Sofar Sounds show.

This new music would go on to become his debut album Beneath The Apple Tree which was released in November 2019 with a sell-out album launch gig in Room 2, Glasgow after John had joined the 23 Music Management family. The pandemic was obviously a difficult time for music but John played two of the pioneering Immersive TV gigs in Room 2 in early 2021 which were broadcast to an international audience and continued to play many online gigs to keep his fans entertained on lockdown.

As 2021 lockdown one restrictions eased, John was able to travel around the country again, playing at one of the UK first outdoor festivals to restart at Capers In Cannich in the Highlands, Upside Doune (The Rabbit Hole) on Cardross Estate in Stirlingshire, Lindisfarne Festival in the North-East of England, the Craft Beer & Food Truck Festival in Rouken Glen Park in Glasgow and sandwiched in between these was his headline and sell-out gig in Saint Lukes.

John returned to the Barrowland Ballroom in November 2021 to support Hipsway for the Glasgow CeilidhFest where he announced the release of his newest single ‘The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree’. The single subsequently peaked at Number 2 on the iTunes UK Singer/Songwriter Chart. John then received the nod from The Modfather himself and living Legend, Paul Weller, to support him on the Scottish leg of his sold out tour where he played to a packed Barrowland Ballroom and Music Hall Aberdeen in successive nights to fulfil a lifetime’s dream of supporting a true musical hero. This was then remarkably followed by being asked to support more of his musical heroes, Ocean Colour Scene, again in the Barrowland Ballroom at the iconic venue’s last gig before restrictions were imposed again.
