Originating from Australia's hippy paradise, Byron Bay, Babe Rainbow are a psych pop collective who ooze surfer vibes through 60s inspired riffs and cosmic grooves, culminating in (so far) two hugely enjoyable releases in The Babe Rainbow (AUS) and Double Rainbow.
Before them came a self titled E.P, including the wonderfully named 'Secret Enchanted Broccoli Forest', along with 'Love Forever' and more - four tracks that promised great things from the band.
Across both albums though, babe Rainbow's gift for songwriting is really clear. Their self-titled debut delivers on a number of levels, from woozy, psychedelic jangling pop to hip shaking, cosmic rock and roll, and is produced by Eric Moore from fellow Aussie psych-band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
After touring relentlessly and around the world in support of their debut, Babe Rainbow returned to their native Byron Bay to record second album Double Rainbow with Wayne Connolly, setting about expanding their sound further, with a more mature, more experimental sophomore effort that proves the group's talents even further.
Their most recent releases (ahead of what we're hoping is a third album release' have been highly enjoyable, with the sexy, shuffling 'Something New' pointing towards more goodness from the group.
Our playlist below should be enough to whet your appetite and get you excited about these Aussie wonders - and if you're after the live experience, Babe Rainbow will play Manchester Psych Fest in August.
