Bungo's Basement Comedy Club on Thursday 2nd May 2024

The lineup on Thursday 2nd May will feature MARJOLEIN ROBERTSON, MARC JENNINGS, THOMAS CRAVEN, resident compere JAY LYNCH and more.

Headlining, Shetland-born comedian, actor and storyteller MARJOLEIN ROBERTSON has fast become one of the UK’s most exciting names. Ranking number three in The List’s Hot 100 as one of the top Scottish cultural contributors of 2023, Marjolein was also a finalist of the BBC New Comedy Awards, placed second in the Funny Women Stage Awards, and was awarded Scots Speaker of the Year in 2022.

Her surreal and charming delivery, interwoven with Shetland folktales, landed Marjolein a completely sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2023 with her hit show Marj, earning two award-nominations and it was named as one of the top-reviewed shows of the festival.

Marjolein is a regular panelist on the BBC’s Breaking the News and The Good, the Bad and the Unexpected. She has also recently performed stand up on Dave’s Rosie Jones’ Disability Comedy Extravaganza and the BBC’s Scotland Stands Up, and has acted in the BBC’s award winning Shetland.

Marjolein embarked on her debut tour of the UK with Marj in 2024, and is preparing a new show titled O for the upcoming Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

“Impish... upbeat, able to mine an everyday observation to almost absurdist lengths”***** List

‘The light and shade that she blended and captivated the audience with was spellbinding, there were times when the club roared with laughter, other occasions you could have heard a pin drop’ *****One4Review

‘A neat, complete hour from a consummate storyteller with more than a hint of weird. For a tale about the erosion of self, it sees Robertson stand firm in her personality, talent and craft’ ****The Skinny

Opening the show, MARC JENNINGS is one of Scotland’s brightest new comedic talents. The Some Laugh podcast host sold out his entire run at the 2019 and 2022 Edinburgh Fringe festivals and last year sold out the Kings Theatre as part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.

The 2019 Scottish Comedian of the Year has amassed millions of views online, gaining tens of thousands of followers.

Marc is a regular panellist on BBC Scotland’s satirical TV and radio show Breaking the News, has appeared on stand-up series The Comedy Underground and BBC Radio 5Live's Fighting Talk.
